3. Mission & Mandate Our mission is to help improve community living and the quality of life for citizens and visitors to the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region. We work with donors in building endowment funds which will benefit our region’s charitable sector forever We help to develop board and effective grant making We encourage community leadership

4. Since 2004, we have provided grants of $854,000 benefiting over 55 local registered charities Our endowments funds are now at $2.7 million and growing – thanks to our generous donors! We hold three fundraisers/year: Festival of Trees in December, Hello Summer in June and the Dragon Boat Festival in August We lead yearly Youth in Philanthropy Programs at Beaver Brae and St Thomas Aquinas High Schools We have one staff member and over 90 active and involved volunteers In December 2011, we received a $11,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the purchase of a joint donor database and accounting software program Baibombeh Anishinaabe School, grant of $7,900 Community Foundation facts

Our yearly granting program is made possible thanks to the generous contributions from many donors Each contribution is important – It is not the size of the gift, but the giving that counts We maintain an on going relationship with our donors We communicate several times each year with our major donors Some donors may actually visit local charities from time to time Many donors attend the granting ceremonies, some anonymously Receiving post grant reports and photos of their grants in action mean a great deal to our donors The importance of acknowledging the support received from donors cannot be overstated Community Foundation facts Community Foundation Grants Donor Focused

Only registered charities and not for profits who are sponsored by a registered charity, are eligible to apply for grants Grant categories include: health and wellness, social welfare, the arts, the environment, the general needs of the community and animal welfare Projects must benefit those residing in the defined catchment area Applicants must establish there is a need for the project Grants are awarded for specific purposes and for projects covering a definite period of time, typically one year or less Applicants must indicate the availability of other sources of funding for their projects Matching or challenge grants may be made to encourage financial support from other sources Applicants must indicate how they will recognize the Community Foundation Community Foundation facts Grant Application Overview

Before a grant is awarded, the recipient is required to sign a Granting Agreement, according to the Income Tax Act The Granting Agreement requires that a Post Grant Report be submitted, along with copies of appropriate receipts at an agreed upon time The agreement details the use of the funds, including the provision of returning any unused funds back to the Community Foundation The use of the funds cannot be changed without the consent of the Community Foundation The agreement also provides wording to announce the grant The Post Grant Report provides the grant recipient with the opportunity to detail how the grant impacted the organization/community and what lessons were learned Community Foundation facts Granting Agreements and Post Grant Reports
