3 Thomas Edison

4 Thomas Edison was a famous inventor. When he was young he sat on chicken eggs to see if they would hatch. He was always curious to see how things worked. He tried to make light for two years. -Nathan

5 The light bulb was one of his inventions. Thomas Edison made this important invention because back then they only used candles. -Shane Thomas Edison

6 Thomas Edison had a laboratory where he kept making his inventions he thought of the projector to make movies and the phonograph to make music. -Colton Thomas Edison

7 Eleanor Roosevelt

8 Eleanor Roosevelt was a very important woman. She believed in human rights. She also helped protect human rights. -Madelene Eleanor Roosevelt

9 Her parents died when she was ten. You would not believe it, but when she was little she was scared of everything. -David Eleanor Roosevelt

10 Eleanor married Franklin. He got sick and his legs didn’t work. Mrs. Roosevelt helped Franklin make speeches. It worked because he became president. -Brady Eleanor Roosevelt

11 She started a furniture business to make new jobs for the poor people. She helped run a girls school and taught history and reading. She was a very important woman and she thought everyone should have the same chance for a happy life. -Ariel Eleanor Roosevelt

13 Roberto Clemente played baseball. He scored 23 home runs in the year 1961. He was a great player! He came from Puerto Rico. Roberto and his friends played baseball every day. -Dylan Roberto Clemente

14 He visited children in hospitals, he taught young people about baseball. He wanted the children to be good athletes. -Iziaha Roberto Clemente

15 Roberto Clemente was the best baseball player on his team. He died in 1955 in an airplane crash. Roberto Clemente is in our memory because he cared about others. -Kellee Roberto Clemente

16 Louis Braille

17 Louis Braille is an important person in the world. He was blind. He had to read with his fingers. -Holly Louis Braille

18 When he was seven he went to school. When he was 15 years old he made a method that blind kids could use. -Kaden Louis Braille

19 The method is called The Braille Alphabet. It is made of dots. He is important because of his invention. -Brittany Louis Braille

20 There are machines and computers based on Braille’s method. These machines help the blind read, write, draw, and play music. Louis Braille’s method has helped blind people all over the world. -Teya Louis Braille

21 Yoshiko Uchida

22 Yoshiko Uchida was an important American. Yoshiko’s family followed Japanese customs even though they lived in America. Yoshiko wanted to be Japanese and American but it was hard because Japan and America were at war and that meant American people thought Japanese people could not also be American. -Lucy Yoshiko Uchida

23 Yoshiko Uchida became a famous author who taught what it was like to be an American and Japanese girl. Yoshiko was a teacher and decided to be a person that would help us learn her customs. -Ashleigh Yoshiko Uchida

27 When Alexa Canady was a child she read about Florence Nightingale. She was a hero to Alexa because she helped people in the army. Alexa decided to be a surgeon who does operations. -Griffith Alexa Canady

28 She is now a nurse and she helps people. She gives tests and uses special tools to help people just like her hero, Florence Nightingale. -Ruby Alexa Canady
