1. Drawing Precis Maps and Sketches

Precis:
Simple but precise
Things to remember:
A precis map is a sketch map which identifies only what is asked for.
Precis maps must have accurate SIZE, SHAPE and LOCATION of what is asked for.

2. Precis map of Thames landuse
Draw a frame the same shape as the map. (but it should fit on your page)
Draw the coastline, the Waihou River, the Kauaeranga River and the Kirikiri Stream. Line shade these water features.
In pencil draw the general line of the 100 metre contour. Lightly shade the area above 100 metres one colour and the land below 100 metres another colour.
Draw in the residential area of Thames on your map. Remember SIZE, SHAPE and LOCATION.
Use the key to identify five different transport and communication systems on the map.
Draw in the transport and communication systems, with each one represented by a different colour or symbol. (don’t worry about the streets of Thames)
Add a title, key, scale and north point to your completed map.
