Hadith- Individual sayings of the Prophet Sunna- Traditions and Practices of the Prophet Hajj- Annual Pilgrimage Injil- Revealed book given to Jesus Islam- Act of accepting belief in the unity of God. Voluntary submission to God Nabi- A Prophet Qur’an- The Holy book revealed to Muhammad Ramadan- Month of Fasting Rusul- Messengers of God Salat- 5 Ritual daily Prayers Shi’a, Sunni, Allawite- Variants of Islam Sura- Chapter of the Qur’an Tawhid- Decleration- God is One Umma- Community

4 The Aqida Islamic Creed Fundamental Islamic Beliefs
“The Messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and so do those who believe. All believe in Allah, His angels, His Books and His Messengers.” (Sura 2:285) 6 Articles of Faith- Revelations from Allah Shahada-Islamic Confession of Faith “La Ilaha Il Allah, Muhammad Il Rusul Allah” “There is no God but God, Muhammad is the Messenger/Prophet of God”

5 Tawhid Existence and Unity of God
“He is God, the One and Only: God, the Eternal. Absolute: He begets not, nor is He begotten: and there is none like unto him.” (Sura 112:1-4) Allah alone- Creator, but not creted Worship of Allah alone Shirk- Sin of Idolatry- attributing Allah’s qualities to someone else No Visual representation of Allah 99 names of Allah in the Qur’an- eg , The Compassionate, Giver of all etc…

6 Angels- Mala’ika Messengers between Humans and Allah (Sura 35:1)
Archangel Gabriel (Jibril)- Messenger to the Prophet Israfil- Will announce the end of the world through the sounding of a trumpet Izrail- Angel of Death Munkar/Nakir- Interrogators of the dead Angels record deeds of humans Acknowledged during Salat (Prayers)

7 Books of Allah Father- Abdullah Died before birth
Mother- Aminah- Died when he was 6 Brought up by his uncle- Abu Talib. 2 Shepherds/Angels, took hold of Prophet, removed his heart and cleansed it of a black spot- trace of evil. This allowed preperation for him to become a nabi. 2 Boys, both died at infancy

Allah speaks through the Prophets Nabi- Prophet Rusul- Prophet who has delivered a Holy Book Suhuf Ibrahim- Scrolls delivered by Abraham Torah- Delivered by Moses Zaabur (Psalms)- Delivered by David Injil (Gospels)- Delivered by Jesus Qur’an- Delivered by Muhammed Prophets delivered Messages to their people Qur’an- Universal Authority, preserved in tact in Arabic Sura refers to Knowledge. A gift from Allah

9 Akhira Life continues after Death
Intermediate Period, souls await resurrection (Sura 23:99-100) Judgement of Sins Jahannam- Hell, Iblis- Satan 1 unforgivable Sin-???? Jannah- Paradise Judgement Day (Youm ad Din)/Day of Resurrection (youm il qiyamah)- Mahdi (Prophesied Ruler) and Isa (Jesus) will battle against Massih ad Dajjal (Anti-Christ). Jesus slays Anti-Christ and unites mankind Day of Resurrection- Worship of Other Gods- Shirk

10 Fate/Predestination God’s will- “Inshallah” or “Isa Allah Raad”
Muslims Responsible for own’s Sins (Free Will) Allah knows the past and future of ones actions Shi’I Muslims disagree with absolute predestination, contradicts Allah’s Omnipotence- All knowing/Powerful Believe in Free will within the Boundaries of Allah Denounced false contracts Neglect Exploitation Defended the Poor, oppressed
