3 Offers the following products and solutions: GS1 BarCodes – global standards for the identification of products, pallets and places (EAN/UPC, ITF-14, GS1 DataBar, GS1 DataMatrix, GS1-128, Composite Component), including the GS1 Identification Keys GS1 eCom (electronic business messaging): GS1 EANCOM GS1 XML GS1 GDSN (Global Data Synchronisation Network) GS1 EPCglobal GS1 Traceability: “business process describing the traceability process independently from the choice of enabling technologies” GS1 MobileCom/B2C GS1 Upstream Integration GS1, Introduction.

4 Identification elements for items, services, locations, logistic units, and returnable containers: GTIN - Global Trade Item Number: assigned to any item to be priced, ordered, or invoiced required by GS1 eCom messages and GDSN solution GLN - Global Location Number: to identify physical locations required by GS1 eCom messages and GDSN solution SSCC – Serial Shipping Container Code: to identify any units (or composition of) of transport and/or storage required by GS1 eCom messages and GDSN solution GRAI – Global Returnable Asset Identifier: Identifies reusable package or transport equipment considered an asset GIAI – Global Individual Asset Identifier GSRN – Global Service Relation Number: identifies the recipient of services in the context of a service relationship GDTI – Global Document Type Identifier GSIN – Global Shipment Identification Number GINC – Global Identification Number for Consignment GS1, Identification Keys.

5 Specifications for the implementation of electronic business messaging, i.e. Electronic Data Interchange, between business partners Two different specifications are provided: GS1 EANCOM: for "traditional" EDI GS1 XML: for Internet-based communication Both are being used in parallel The following Identification Keys are used: GTIN – for identification of products GLN – for identification of parties involved in electronic transactions and physical locations SSCC – for identification of logistic units GS1, eCOM.

6 It is a subset of the UN/EDIFACT standard: Uses the UN/EDIFACT message elements needed by the business application and required by the syntax (mandatory elements) Optional elements are usually omitted Last available aversion is: “EANCOM syntax version 4, 2002 release” (based on UN/EDIFACT directory D.01B, syntax version 4, released by UN/CEFACT in 2001). 8 Report and Planning Messages: Trading reports allowing partners to plan future requirements and activities (e.g. forecasts about delivery, sales, stocks) Inventory Report, Sales Forecast Report, Sales Data Report, Delivery Schedule INVRPT, SLSFCT, SLSRPT, DELFOR, etc. Miscellaneous Messages: Syntax and Service Report Message, Security Messages (2002), General Message CONTRL, AUTACK, KEYMAN, GENRAL, etc. GS1, eCOM EANCOM, message types.

9 Makes use of more recent technology, namely the "eXtensible Markup Language" (XML) Messages are transport agnostic: several transport protocols can be used to transport a message in the Internet (e.g. AS2, ebMS, web services, etc.) Structure of messages are defined through XSD schemas Messages are developed using the UN/CEFACT business process modelling methodology and its Core Components Technical Specification (CCTS) Version 3 is last version, issued in 16 Mar 2012 GS1, eCOM XML.

10 Trade Messages: Plan: Goods Requirements, Goods Requirements Response, Replenishment Request, Replenishment Proposal, Purchase Conditions, Performance Measurement Order: Order, Order Response, Configure to Order Deliver: Despatch Advice, Receiving Advice, Consumption Report, Inventory Report, Despatch Advice - Meat Product Extension Pay: Invoice, Settlement, Debit Credit Advice, Advanced Remittance Notification, Request for Payment, Buyer Reconciliation of Request for Payment, Claims Notification GS1, eCOM XML, message types.

11 Logistics Messages: Transport Planning: Transport Capacity Requirements, Transport Capacity Plan, Transport Capacity Booking & Response Transport Execution: Transport Instruction & Response, Transport Status Request & Notification, Transport Pick-up Drop-off Request & Confirmation Miscellaneous messages: Align (Item Data Notification), Product Recall, Application Receipt Acknowledgement, Shared Common Library, eCom Common Library GS1, eCOM XML, message types.

12 Enables the automatic tracking of an item through the whole supply chain, by the combined exploitation of : Electronic Product Code (EPC): unique number used to identify a specific item in the supply chain (intended to replace traditional bar code) RFID technology: enables the storage and reading/writting of EPC tags throught radio waves Communications network infrastructure It is a not-for-profit joint venture between GS1 (formerly EAN International) and GS1 US (formerly the Uniform Code Council, Inc.) It is responsible for managing the EPCglobal Network: used to share product data between trading partners GS1, EPCglobal.

13 Last version: EPCglobal Final Version 1.4, approved 15 December 2010 It is a collection of hardware, software, and data standards, and a shared network services (operated by EPCglobal, its delegates or third party providers) in service of this common goal: to enable accurate, immediate and cost-effective visibility of information throughout the supply chain by the adoption of EPC GS1, EPCglobal Architecture Framework.
