2 Job Overview  Gerontologist provide care and assistance in adult daycares or through social service programs. They focus on different facets of aging and relates to many fields, including biology, psychology, education and 6 other aspects too.

3 Why am I interested in this career?  I’m interested in this career because you still get to help people with there issues but mostly adults that are old and aging. It still a really great career plus you get paid very well for this career as well.

4 Education/ pathways  The program that I would have to take is called Gerontology. I would take this course at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay Ontario. The cost of tuition at this university is $5,329 and the mandatory fee is $889. it does not say the cost of books or supplies. This course will take me at least 3-4 years to complete.

5 Salary/ Future Outlook  Gerontologist earnings vary widely depending on the area they work in, experience, education and geographic location also affects earnings, The typical range from about $25,000 to $80,000 a year.  This job will be in demand because you have to take care of other patients and make sure they are alright. Plus you would have to monitor their behavior and tell the doctor so they can find ways to treat the patient.

6 Working conditions  Most Gerontologist work for the government and community agencies, universities, colleges, hospitals, and nursing homes. Some work for adult daycares and long term care facilities. Plus they work full time. They mostly work in offices, but some travel to clients homes regularly. Those specializing in geriatric medicine work in hospitals and clinics most gerontologist work 40 hour’s a week. Also there are not many injuries involving in this career the worst that could happen is if you a patient hits you which is very unlikely.

7 Related occupations  Will first I would want to be a psychologist because you get to work with people that have mental or personal issues that they have in their lives. And get to study people’s feeling thoughts and behavior.  Social worker because I would still get to help people and their children through personal issues that there family is going through.  Chiropractor would be really coo too because I still get to help people plus you get to treat patient with spinal injuries and other joint pains which is cool and you get to use different techniques to help them.
