LEARNING TECHNOLOGY SELF ASSESSMENT The Journey at Activate Learning Surjit Uppal ILT Manager

ACTIVATE LEARNING The Activate Learning group comprises secondary, further and higher education, apprenticeship and workforce training, consultancy, commercial business and social enterprise. These learning organisations are united by a common purpose - to transform lives through learning. The three colleges in the Group: City of Oxford Banbury and Bicester Reading College

IMPLEMENTATION METHODOLOGY Involve all 3 colleges in the Group to participate in the Self Assessment To inform the use of learning technologies across the Group To allow managers to identify SSA areas that could share good practice/ideas when using learning technologies To allow the Group to benchmark its use of learning technologies within the sector Liaise with Teacher Education Manager to ensure results would be used in parallel with the self assessments carried out in the colleges to inform CPD and staff reviews Meetings arranged with all Learning Managers across the three Colleges to explain the content of the self evaluation, including the types of questions in the survey

CARRYING OUT THE EVALUATION Learning Managers met with their teams and discussed the contents of the survey A member of the ILT team sat with the LMs when they filled in the survey to help with any computer jargon in the questions All LMs across the three colleges completed the survey and uploaded the results

WHAT DID WE LEARN The questions in the survey prompted conversations and ideas for developing learning technologies across the SSAs The survey highlighted to the LMs the areas where they were quite active in deploying learning technologies in their teaching, learning and assessment The survey was long, and time allocated to complete was short! It felt a little rushed as the deadline to complete was approaching

WHAT WOULD WE DO DIFFERENTLY Spend more time with LMs and teams prior to completion in order for them to think about the evidence and discuss their usage of learning technologies for teaching, learning and assessment Allocate more time to complete the survey Project manage the completion of the survey to fit in with other requirements from the LMs

RESULTS The results are very informative in graphical format Helped to see the three colleges comparisons as well as the sector benchmarking We will do the survey again in a years time to see if there are any significant changes and developments Looking at the sector results allows the creation of partnerships for sharing/working together to increase the use of learning technology within SSAs for teaching, learning and assessment
