What is Autodesk Architectural Studio? Autodesk® Architectural Studio 3 software is the visual communication and presentation tool for architects and other design professionals

What are the key benefits of Autodesk Architectural Studio? Using simple, familiar design tools -such as digital pencils and markers-, you can quickly and easily convey your design ideas. Autodesk Architectural Studio gives you more tools to create more design options more quickly. Reproducing design options manually can take hours; with Autodesk Architectural Studio, you can do it in minutes. Autodesk Architectural Studio makes it easy for principals and senior designers to participate in the digital process with CAD drafters. As a result, teams can work together more efficiently. By transferring ideas and files digitally, you save time and preserve design intent. With Autodesk Architectural Studio, you can sketch, model, present, and collaborate digitally all in one familiar environment.

How is Autodesk Architectural Studio different from other Autodesk products? Autodesk Architectural Studio complements other Autodesk software offerings; it does not replace them. It provides a multimedia environment where you can freely combine both images (raster) and linework (vector), and it enables you to export sketches and models to Autodesk® Architectural Desktop or AutoCAD® software for further development. Autodesk Architectural Studio’s conferencing feature offers enhanced communication with colleagues. It re-creates the tools and methods of the traditional design studio and brings them into the digital world for conceptual design, sketching, modeling, and presentation.

Can I use Autodesk Architectural Studio with other Autodesk software products? Yes, although not all products are directly supported, there are many ways in which you can use Autodesk Architectural Studio software with other Autodesk applications. You can export your conceptual models created in Autodesk Architectural Studio directly to Autodesk Architectural Desktop with the Export Model command. In addition, both freehand and hardline drawings can be easily exported in DXF™ file format and imported into Autodesk Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk VIZ, AutoCAD, and other applications that support this format. Using the latest version of Autodesk Architectural Desktop, you can also publish DWF (Design Web Format™) any view on your display directly to Autodesk Architectural Studio.

Features Faster Resolution of Design Issues— Autodesk Architectural Studio lets you bypass the costly process of faxing or using a courier to send printed, plotted, and duplicated design documents to other office locations. Familiar Tools in the Digital Realm— With simple, direct- manipulation tools, such as colored pencils, markers, erasers, pins, and clips, you can use your drawing skills and techniques in a digital environment for sketching and communicating your design ideas. Effective Presentation s via Aggregated Media—In a single workspace you can combine sketches, hardline drawings, 3D models, and digital images.

Features Cont’d 3D Conceptual Models Use direct- manipulation solid modeling tools, basic forms, and voids to quickly and easily create 3D conceptual models. Work in a fashion similar to clay or chipboard. 2D Strokes in 3D Use pencils and markers to draw directly on 3D surfaces—whether documents or forms. This feature is great for conducting fenestration studies. You can extrude sketched lines into 3D by pulling the appropriate handle.

Features Cont’d 3D Standard Views 3D standard views allow for full 360- degree viewing and rotation. The 3D grid provides for accurate perspective viewing that you can control, so you can work with your model in plan, elevation, and even axonometric views. Shadows The Shadows command uses one standard light source to apply shadows to 3D models. Turn on the shadows for a 3D model and quickly simulate lighting and shadow studies in any 3D view. 3D Property Sheets 3D objects have a Property Selection dialog box that allows you to quickly control the color and transparency of 3D solids 3D Transparent Objects 3D objects have a transparency attribute that lets you control varied levels of transparency— which is great for creating glass effects.
