Who: American citizens The American Civil War 1861-1865 What: A war between members of the same group or country When: 1861-1865 Where: The United States of America Why: Some states disagreed with the American government about the issue of slavery, and they wanted to be their own country.

Important People Abraham Lincoln: The President of the United States (The North) during the time of the Civil War. Jefferson Davis: The President of the Confederate States (The South) during the time of the Civil War.

Important People Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson: A Confederate General during the time of the Civil War. John Brown: An abolitionist who led a raid on an Army fort in order to arm slaves.

Slavery The states began to have disagreement about each states’ right to permit slavery. As a result, tension between the North and South began to increase.

Major Battles and Campaigns Fort Sumter: Thought to be the site where the Civil War begins. Gettysburg: The location of a Union victory and the location of Abraham Lincoln’s famous speech.

Major Battles and Campaigns Atlanta Campaign: The Union Army wanted to destroy Atlanta because they its destruction would harm the Confederacy. Sherman’s March to the Sea: The Union swept across Georgia in an effort to win the Civil War.
