2 WHAT? Science Fairs let you explore a scientific problem and create your own investigation Science Fairs give you practice and confidence speaking in front of your peers as well as adults Science Fairs can lead to cash and other rewards Science Fairs are FUN!!!

3 WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? You’ve already taken the first step by coming here today Meeting times are about once a month You will have project checkpoint deadlines to meet IT IS REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU STAY ON SCHEDULE! Let me know your topic by 11/1!!!

4 WHICH FAIR? There are two competitions we participate in: Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS)- This is a local fair. First place winners of this fair go on to Penn State in May. Bucks County Science Fair, AKA Intel- This is a local fair. First place winners of this fair go on to the regional fair, Delaware Valley Science Fair at Oaks. Special first place winners of this fair go on to the national fair.

5 YOUR PROJECT Your project can be about any science, engineering or math related topic Keep in mind that there are restrictions on what you are permitted to work with – certain microbes and chemicals are not allowed and some are BUT require special permission from the fair scientists Keep it simple! The judges will not be impressed with your work if you cannot explain what you did!

6 SCIENCE FAIRS - OPTIONS IntelPJAS Judging Students are judged, within their category and grade level, against all others in their category Students are judged, within their category and grade level, against a rubric, based on the category Presentation Students present using tri-fold posters to judges (students need copies of their abstract, research log and a research report) Students present a 10 min. talk with Power Point to judges Progression First and second place award winners at the local fair (Bucks County) can go on to the Delaware Valley Science Fair, then the International Fair. First place award winners at the local fair (District 1C) can go on to the State Competition. Special note Team projects are allowedNO team projects
