Verbs in TEKS Verbs in TEKS Pay close attention to Verbs in the TEKS Bloom’s Taxonomy

Hitting the Mark TEKS/TAKS connection. Hitting the mark of the TEK. Student expectation verbs are the key. Student must have a critical mass of the content to analyze. Choose your spots for depth focus on Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Evaluation Judge, assign value, to reject Synthesis Formulate, assemble, create Analysis Investigate, Study, research Application to use, solve, practice Comprehension Identify, Recognize Knowledge Recall, Repeat, List

Analysis Most prominent “thinking skill” in TEKS. “Taking Something Apart.” Will be key to TAKS success.

Synthesis Not seen often in TEKS/TAKS. Tough to assess. “Putting something together.” Could be highest level of “Thinking Skills.”

Evaluation Shows up in some TEKS. “Judgment based on a set criteria.”

Remember the word “Including” The term is used when the specific examples that follow it must be taught. However, other examples may also be used in conjunction with those listed. Remember…must teach items!
