The importance of water and how to avoid wasting it

Why water is so important The presence of water on earth is essential for the development and sustenance of life. Water is important because it is the basis of all forms of life and without this valuable resource the Earth would not exist. The daily life itself and conduct of the simplest actions require the use of water; just think of the use made of it in the field of agriculture and industry.

Why water is so important The “water problem” in the world. WHERE IT IS: Water covers about 2/ 3 of the Earth's surface, but most of it is too salty to be used by humans for food or agricultural. Only 2.5 % of the water, throughout the world, is not salted, and 2/3 of it are found at the poles and in glaciers and are, therefore, unusable. HOW MUCH WE HAVE AND HOW WE USE : Humans have at their disposal a total of 0.08 percent of all water on earth, but in the next two decades the consumption of unsalted water is expected to grow by at least 40 percent. 70 percent of the water we have is used in agriculture.

Why water is so important The “water problem” in the world. WHO HAS GOT IT, WHO HAS NOT GOT : At present, 968 million people are without access to clean water sources ; according to data from the 2002 report of the United Nations World Development, 33% of the world population does not have access to drinking water. The UN aims to halve, by 2015, the proportion of the world population which does not have access to water. The available data, however, suggest that this trend is increasing : if 436 million people in 29 countries have had problems with water supply in 1995,by 2025 - the World Bank estimates - this issue will cover 48 countries, for a total of 1, 4 billion people.

Why water is so important The “water problem” in the world. NOT ONLY HUNGER, BUT ALSO HEALTH : The World Health Organization estimates that 19% of deaths from infectious diseases is due to the scarcity of water. during the years 1980-1990 a new method for the rehydration of some countries has saved three million children from certain death. WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE AVAILABLE TO ALL, WHAT IS IN FACT : According to the Joint United Nations Programme on Water ( World Water Assessment Programme ), the minimum investments to ensure the safety water in the world need to amount to 180 billion dollars a year for 30 years.

But…how can we save it? It 's normal that in order to fully reduce the waste of water, we common people cannot do much, because it is up to the governments of the major countries of the world. But also we, in our simple every day life, can do something.. and I, with the help of my classmates, made a little video to show you how we can avoid the waste of water.
