1 How do you become an Airline Pilot?

2 The Aim of this Presentation
to give you a quick overview of “How to become an Airline Pilot” and generally what is required to meet this objective.

3 Is this right profession for you?
A few simple answers to a few simple questions would answer whether or not “This is the right profession for you”: Passion for flying? The responsibility of the profession? Working away from home?

4 General Criteria Required.
Age Qualifications Pass a medical Enthusiasm & Determination

5 Licences Involved A Private Pilot’s Licence:
Must be at least 17 years old, third class medical, minimum of 45 flight hours, complete a cross country flight and your first solo A Commercial Pilot’s Licence: Must be at least 18 years old, first class medical, 5 hours of night flying, 150 hours flight time, 20 hours of cross country flight time and pass several written examinations and flight tests An Air Transport Pilot Licence: At least 23 years old, first class medical, 750 hours of studying under supervision and around 1,500 hours of flight time and again pass several written examinations and flight test.

Theory of flight: The principles involved in flying and how a plane functions Meteorology: The study of weather and how to interpret weather charts and maps Aircraft systems: Knowing what the instruments onboard aircrafts are illustrating and how to use them when flying Navigation: Knowing how to safely navigate from one airport to another, using various aircraft instruments and from the help of ATC. Aircraft Airworthiness: Being able to know how to recognise faults within an aircraft

7 Route Options – Your Decision
The Military Route: Train you to a very high standard Stringent selection process Have to fulfil your Military service after training is complete Civilian Route: Many options here: Train yourself privately Gain a form of Sponsorship with an Airline

8 Applying to the Airlines as an Airline Pilot
Which ever route you have chosen and once you have completed all your flight training and gained your licenses required you are now in a position to apply to the Airlines all around the world as an AIRLINE PILOT.

9 Summary & Conclusion Determination – making the decision to fly and sticking with it, regardless the various obstacles you may face. Money – if you have the passion and determination to become an airline pilot you will find ways to fund your dream. Confidence - if u don’t believe in yourself know one else can, lead the way and feel comfortable within yourself, and I can assure you, people will believe in you and you’ll go far. Support – ask your friends and family for support plus seek out someone who can provide you with words of encouragement as we all need someone to say “you can do it.” Understand the journey – I hope after watching this presentation and taking time out to read my dissertation you will have a better understanding if you want to become a pilot and fly for a career. However, this is only part of the journey, go and take a trial lesson from your local flying school. Get a better idea if this is for you. If you find the determination and focus you can make your dreams come true
