THE RISE OF ROMANTIC MUSIC  Because of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars, aristocrats could no longer afford musical luxuries.  Romantic composers wrote primarily for a middle-class audience  The rise of the middle class led to the formation of many orchestras, opera groups, and subscription concerts.  The piano became a fixture in every middle-class home.
