5 Cox Scholarships/Assistantships  Merit-based awards made at time of offer of admission  Total award amount split evenly between 4 semesters of the program  All scholarship awards applied directly to tuition/fees  Assistantship awards are made over the spring/summer

6 Federal Loans (US Citizens and Permanent Residents)  Up to $20,500 in subsidized/unsubsidized loans per academic year  FAFSA: file online using 2006 tax information and school code 003613  SMU can act as lender  Government sends report to school  Automated e-mails sent to smu.edu account  Acceptance of loans done online

7 Consumer-based Loans  Can help make up the balance due in tuition and for personal expenses  Many loan companies are available; check Cox website for suggestions  Non-US citizens will need co-signer

9 Paying Tuition  Tuition is due prior to the start of each semester  Any scholarship received will be applied to tuition in equal installments  Loan funds are first applied to tuition balance; remaining funds are refunded to student  Check your smu.edu e-mail account for information

10 Loan Disbursements  If you take out loans beyond what is required for tuition, balance is refunded to you after tuition is paid  You can choose direct deposit (requires form) or to receive a check via mail  Funds sent to you as quickly and efficiently as possible

11 After the MBA…  Federal and some private loans come with a 6 month grace period after graduation  Terms of repayment can be customized  Check with your lender(s) about opportunities to consolidate Stafford (Federal) loans and lock in low interest rates  Other interest rate reductions may be for EFT payments, on time payments, etc.

13 Pre-MBA Requirements  Accounting and Statistics Prep materials will be sent (via UPS) to all deposited students starting in May Follow instructions to review prep materials Successfully pass both online tests by the July 31 deadline (you can take the tests multiple times, if needed)

14 Pre-MBA Requirements  Career Management Center Packet to be mailed to all deposited students in June Online assessments to be completed by August 1; the results will be discussed during orientation and throughout the fall semester Sample cover letter and “Cox formatted” resume e-mailed to CMC by August 1

15 Pre-Orientation – Week of August 4  International Orientation Invitations and further information to be sent via e-mail to those required to attend  MBA Boot Camp Invitations and further information to be sent via e-mail New structure this year  Basic quant concepts  Finance

16 August Overview  MANDATORY Orientation August 10-16 Please plan to be on campus for activities starting at 3pm on Sunday 8/10 and concluding on Saturday 8/16 Most activities take place 8am-5pm through the week but there will also be evening activities (some required, some optional) Further information to be mailed to all deposited students in June

17 Keep an eye out for….  Two mailings from SMU’s IT office with your campus e-mail account and student ID number (both are needed to receive important information from the MBA Student Services team starting in July)  Mailings from Career Management Center and Student Services  Prep materials to complete online tests by July 31  Twice-monthly e-newsletters from Patti and Holly with reminders and announcement  Updates on the Admitted Students section of the Cox website and the Facebook group

18 Starting classes  All classes in Fall 2008 will be assigned to you – there is no need to enroll until e-mail from Cox in July  Fall 2008 – Module A Finance, Marketing Financial Accounting, and Statistics along with Managing Your Career  Fall 2008 – Module B Economics, Accounting 2 (choose financial or managerial), and Decision Modeling along with Business Presentation Skills  As soon as information on books is available it will be posted on the Class of 2010 Facebook group

19 Tips from someone who’s been there….  Brush up on your quant skills  Focus your career search  Relocate and settle in  Enjoy the spring and summer  Don’t work until the last minute!
