5 Imagine that a village had a pasture for cows to graze in. There is enough grass for every farmer to feed two cows but will disappear if everyone had more than those two cows. What would happen if one farmer decided to have an additional cow? What would happen if all the farmers decided to have an additional cow? What would happen to the village if they didn’t have cows!? How does this show how individual interests conflict with the common good?

7 Pick an issue of Public Policy/Public Interests. Make a Venn Diagram with the following categories.  Personal Interests  Public Interests The overlap is where Public Policy begins. Write a Paragraph at the bottom talking about how government gets involved.

12  The rights that a person has over their own self. These rights are distinguished from political rights, e.g., the right to privacy or the right to freedom of conscience as distinguished from the political right to peaceably assemble and petition for a redress of grievances

13  The rights that involve participation in the establishment or administration of a government and are usually entitle the adult citizen to the exercise of the franchise, the holding of public office, and other political activities. Permission to participate in an organized civic function that elects officials to govern and carry out the will of the social order.

14  The rights of an individual to make a business, acquire, own, use, transfer, and dispose of property, participate in voluntary exchange, enter into lawful contracts and the right of competition.

15  The rights belonging to an individual by virtue of citizenship, especially the fundamental freedoms and privileges guaranteed by the 13th and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution and by subsequent acts of Congress, including civil liberties, due process, equal protection of the laws, and freedom from discrimination. These are the rights of the individual citizen to have equal treatment and equal opportunities.
