1 “Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality” Nuria Madrid Solano Humanidades, Investigación.

2  He was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic.  He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 19, 1809.  Edgar Allan Poe's first love was poetry.  He is considered the inventor of the detective-fiction genre.  The actual cause of death remains a mystery and speculation has included : Delirium tremens, heart disease, epilepsy, syphilis, meningeal inflammation, cholera, and rabies. 3  Poe is now considered the father of the modern detective story.  In 1833, the Baltimore Saturday Visiter published some of his poems and he won a contest in it for his story “MS found in a Bottle”  In 1835 he became editor and contributor of the Southern Literary Messenger.  "The Black Cat" it was first published in the August 19, 1843, edition of The Saturday Evening Post  Other publications which he contributed to were Burton’s Gentleman’s Magazine, Graham’s Magazine, Evening Mirror, and Godey’s Lady’s Book.
