5 Requirements to Earn Credit 1.Your child must earn an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ for BOTH SEMESTERS during the time he or she is taking Algebra I. 2.Students must take the End of Course (EOC) exam. As is our current practice, all students taking Algebra 1 must take the EOC Exam for Algebra I this spring. This follows state testing procedures. 3.All students must have a signed agreement.

6 What happens if my child does not earn the credit? Nothing! He or she will enter his or her freshman year like the majority of our students—with no credit. He or she will sign up for math based on teacher recommendation, achievement level and parent input. This is a situation where your child has the possibility of gaining a credit but will lose nothing if he or she does not meet the requirements.

7 Frequently Asked Questions??? Once in high school, what class would take the place of Algebra I? We would follow the pathway progression with the next class being geometry How much is the credit worth and how is it applied? Same as high school, 1 credit for a full year of math Will the credit show on the high school transcript? Yes Will the credit be accepted by colleges as a math credit for high school? Yes Do high school students have to pass the same criteria to get credit? Yes Will the grade be part of a student’s high school G.P.A.? Yes

8 Frequently Asked Questions??? What is the benefit of completing this credit early? Opportunity to take advanced classes later in their high school career, such as AP Calculus or Dual credit courses such as College Algebra. Already doing the same work that every other student who takes algebra 1 does when they get to high school. What is the cost? No cost. Are there any negatives to offering credit to 8 th grade students? We believe this is a win-win for all.
