What does “love” mean ● There is not a correct definition of love: everyone has his own concept of love. ● The word “love” comes from Germanic words meaning “to care, to desire”. ● Generally ● Love is an intense emotion of affection and regard towards a person. ● Love could be physical or emotional attraction. ● Love is a deep feeling, the strongest bond between two persons.

Why it's difficult to express love Love is a deep felling, difficult to express: why? ● It is hard to show off feelings, exposing oneself. ● When you're in love you feel confused and overfilled by feelings. ● It's is hard to understand what you're supposed to win someone's love. ● It is hard to find the words to express what you feel.

Love and poetry ● The language of love is a poetical language. ● This is why it's so difficult. ● The language of love is made of: – Emotion – Difficult words – Figures of speech ● The theme of love is one of the most debated and developed themes in poetry. ● Love is the strongest feeling and everybody loves: a lot of material to discuss. ● Everyone has his own idea of what love is.

The language of love in the Renaissance ● Love in the Renaissance ● It's far from the catholic concept of love. ● Reevaluation of sexual and physical attraction. ● Romeo and Juliet: ● They come from contrasting families. ● Even so they fall in love. ● Romeo's court is made of metaphors and figures of speech. ● Romeo's purpose is to raise his lover, comparing her to a divine being.

Romeo and Juliet: love at first sight ● Love at first sight is a debated notion. ● At the beginning of the drama Romeo's love is mere physical attraction: he's in love but he does not know his lover. ● True love is not only based on physical appearance. ● First sight attraction exists, but love is deeper. ● Love is the moving force of the drama and guides the characters since the first sight.

Love nowadays ● Nowadays the language of love is shallow. ● Love is not poetry: language of love is made of short and easy texts. ● Love remains: it's still the deep feeling it was in the Renaissance. ● We feel the same but we don't own a poetical language to express what we feel. ● Love is even more difficult to express

Innovation in the language of love ● There is no innovation in the language of love ● The language of love of today is poor, made of short messages. ● Use of SMS to communicate. ● The youngest generation is loosing the ability to speak well. ● This way love seems to be superficial too. ● The regression of the language of love debase the concept of love itself.
