Input – Component 2 Victorian Community Indicators McCaughey Centre: VicHealth Centre for the Promotion of Mental Health and Community Wellbeing Community Project for the Victorian government to support the development and use of local community wellbeing indicators as a basis for informed, engaged and integrated community planning and policy making Survey in each LGA to collate, analyse local community wellbeing indicators In addition to the basic survey, CoM purchased 2 questions to obtain opinions about the role of local government in addressing disadvantage Provides community input for Living Melbourne on issues relating to Council’s role to develop policies and programs that support social inclusion and a city for all people

5. Community Indicators Victoria Survey Additional Questions for the City of Melbourne Question 1 – Should the council provide services and programs to any of the following? (Overall yes%) People without homes - 89.2 Indigenous people - 82.8 Substance abusers - 76.7 People with disabilities - 95.8 Vulnerable young people - 83.3 The elderly - 94.9 The results overwhelming support Council's role to provide services and programs to the most vulnerable people in our city.

6. Question 2 – Does the council have an active role to play to reduce the following forms of discrimination? (Overall yes%) Discrimination based on ethnic or cultural differences -84.6 Religious discrimination - 74.4 Gender based discrimination - 75.5 Discrimination based on someone’s health status or due to a physical or mental disability - 79.8 Discrimination based on someone’s parenting status or family responsibilities - 66.8 The results strongly support Council’s role to reduce a wide variety of forms of discrimination through it’s policies and programs.

7. Future Melbourne: Transportation From around 200+ responses, the one concern which raised most attention is related to public transport. Among the responses, 80% of them mentioned public transport. Improvement access, more service & increase capacity and quality of services are the three most mentioned Key Themes: Public Transport Walking & cycling Car- Road Car Parking

Future Melbourne: Urbanisation/Urban Issues The overall message is that people place a great deal of importance on their access to community facilities and also value Melbourne’s open space and public areas. Many respondents seem to simply want a better living environment – cleaner, healthier, greener, friendlier. 10. Future Melbourne: Multiculturalism & Social Inclusion In the next 20 years, Melbournians are looking forward to enhancing cultural development with in their CBD area. Key ideas that expressed include the increase in number and size of venues to remain Melbourne’s role as a festival city in the future. Respondents also hope to achieve cultural integration within different races in this multicultural community. In terms of promoting tourism, establishing more iconic Australian culture and consolidating the unique identity of Australian and Melbournians, it is also important to promote indigenous culture in Melbourne. Within local communities, it is important to build a sense of community among residents. This could be beneficial to the development of unique culture in different suburbs and community. In terms of successful planning processes, it is important for all levels of governments to promote more inclusive public consultation procedures, which do not exclude the ideas and needs of minority groups and Indigenous community members.
