1 Maude Saunders Elementary School

2 Title I is a federal program designed to offer supplemental services and supplies (above and beyond what other district schools receive) to schools with a high rate of poverty Federal requirement - Serve schools with over 75% of students on Free & Reduced Price Lunch Walton County serves our elementary schools with over 65% of students on Free & Reduced Price Lunch The goal of Title I is to give EVERY child a high-quality education.

3 In planning for the following year, the parents, administrators, teachers, and staff devise a plan to: Identify students who have the greatest need Measure student progress using the state standards Develop programs that help to supplement classroom instruction Involve parents in every part of the program (through participation in the School Parent Advisory Council).

4 The Florida Department of Education receives funding from the Federal Government. The Florida Department of Education sends an allocation to the districts based on the number of students that received Free and Reduced Priced Lunches the previous year and the plan for spending those funds submitted by the Title I Department. The School District receives funding from the State. In collaboration with the School District, the school determines the best services to provide using the funds and in accordance with the Title I/School Improvement Plan created by the school, submitted to the District, and approved by the FLDOE.

5 Title I offers programs to help student achievement such as: Additional teachers and paraprofessionals Additional training for school staff Various teaching methods and materials Tutoring

6 Be involved and request regular meetings to express your opinions and concerns; Be provided information on your child’s level of achievement on assessments like the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA)in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science; Request and receive information on the qualifications of your child’s teacher; and be informed if your child is taught by a non-highly qualified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks. MSE teachers are highly-qualified. School Public Accountability Report (SPAR) provides parents and the community with important information about each public school. 7 Parents are “SUPER” important to a child’s education. Get involved with the school - attend meetings, read our compact and Parent Involvement Policy, volunteer, join PTO, be a committee member Communicate regularly - conferences, meetings, email, telephone Help your child at home - homework, reading, etc.

8 Florida’s academic content standards establish high expectations for all students. Florida Standards identify what your child needs to know and be able to do in all content areas. The information can be found on the State and school websites. Student success is measured by the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) – Grades 3-4, along with the STAR test for Reading and Math for K-4, and End of Course Exams for the secondary level. www.fsassessments.org

10 Maude Saunders Elementary School, and parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how parents, entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which Maude Saunders Elementary School and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve Florida’s high standards. The compact will be reviewed and signed by the teacher, student, and parent.
