1 MY CHRISTMAS MY CHRISTMAS Author : Frederika Lániková

2 My favourite holiday is Christmas. It lasts from 24 to 26 December. Christmas is an annual holiday, which is liked especially by children, because they get presents. In Slovakia small children believe that the presents under the Christmas tree are brought by Ježiško – small Jesus. Advent time precedes Christmas Day. Christians also call it as „Spiritual preparation for Christmas“.

3 All banks and offices are closed and people have a rest during this Feast. Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. People sing beautiful Christmas carols. This day nobody should be alone. People should be together with their families. It is the time for families to stay together.

4 I live in Malacky and at Christmas Eve we are used to prepare potato salad and fish. We also decorate the Christmas tree with various decorations and we also decorate our house.

5 We keep Fast all day. In the evening the whole family sit at Christmas table and we burn the candles in an advent wreath. My mother give us sauerkraut – soup, wafers and an apple too. The healthy apple half is a symbol of good health next year.

6 These are our Christmas traditions. After the dinner we go to look under the Christmas tree to see what presents did we get from „Ježiško“. We enjoy these presents.

7 Famous Christmas Honey Cakes NECESSARY INGREDIENTS: 160 g honey, 160 g chrystal sugar, 120 g butter, 500 g flour, 1 teaspoon, soda bicarbonate, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 2 whole eggs Glaze: 1 egg – white part, 150-200 g powder sugar, lemon

8 PROCESS OF PREPARING 160 g honey, 160 g chrystal sugar, 120 g butter let boil in saucepan. One teaspoon of soda bicarbonate mix with 500g of flour and one teaspoon of ground cinnamon and poured into the saucepan with the honey and stir. To not completely cool mixture stir two whole eggs in and prepare the dough well. Then let it stand for two hours, then rolled to 5 mm and cut the Christmas shapes of the cakes. Before baking, brush the beaten egg and bake for 10 minutes at about 170-180 degrees.

9 I like Christmas, because our family is altogether, there is snow outside and I’m at home.
