Electromagnetic force Electromagnetic field exerts this force on electrically charged particles. This is one of four fundamental forces. This force holds protons, neutrons and electrons together in atoms A changing magnetic field exerts an electric field, conversely, a changing electric field generates a magnetic field. What we observe as light is an electromagnetic wave, a propagated oscillatory disturbance in electromagnetic field.
