What are the programs that we don’t want to lose and why? Our focus is Kindergarten through Fifth grade primarily, but the preschool and after school programs are an integral part of our students’ success. “We would like to keep every program we have now because they all expose kids to so many good things”

Programs that impact facilities: Music has moved into a room at the BGC. She sees every student in the school. A cart is not an option as the playground is not covered and her equipment is too cumbersome. Music has moved into a room at the BGC. She sees every student in the school. 22 Suggestions from Staff Make KBE an immersion magnet school to meet the demand Make KBE an immersion magnet school to meet the demand Create a different type of magnet school at Tahoe Lake such as Science or Performing Arts Create a different type of magnet school at Tahoe Lake such as Science or Performing Arts Balance programs with a mixture of EL’s and EO’s Balance programs with a mixture of EL’s and EO’s

What might be some advantages and disadvantages to the proposed configurations? K-3 4-6 Advantages  Age appropriate  Efficient use of staff and resources  Able to stay with your community some of the time  Integration  Offer more programs Disadvantages o Separation of siblings o Loss of older models o Too many transitions o Hard to articulate with other grades o Busing of little ones might be hard

Configurations, continued K-8 Advantages  Efficient use of facilities and staff (Polaris?)  Middle school age students with younger grades  Family style, cross age tutoring  Kids don’t have to grow up too fast Disadvantages o Too many students for any one facility o Middle school age students with younger grades

Configuration, continued Magnet TWI at KBE Advantages  Mixes English Mainstream classes  Meets the demand of TWI  Bilingual Students Disadvantages o No support for Spanish Speakers at TL o Travel outside of neighborhood What is the difference between TDI and DI? With TWI-two groups of students become fluent in each language. For example, EO’s and EL’s emerge fluent in English and Spanish With DI-one group of students is taught 2 new languages. For example, EO’s would learn Spanish and Chinese.

Thank you!
