Goals  To present an overview of the Roland ColorChoice Software Solution  To provide knowledge for successful installation  To train on features and capabilities of the program

Agenda zIntroduction and Program Overview zColor Theory zInstallation on MAC & Windows zComponents of Program zProgram Workflow zColor Theory zPrinting from Mac & Windows zTroubleshooting

Software Description zRoland ColorChoice is a PostScript printer driver for the Roland Hi-Fi Jet printer available on both Macintosh and Windows platforms

Software Overview ySoftware-embedded Adobe PostScript 3 RIP yPlatforms supported: Mac, Win 95, 98, NT 4 yOpen architecture ICC color management yPrint Directly from any DTP application yFamiliar Interface yEasy-to-use yPowerful

Printing from Application

Hardware Recommendations  Pentium II 233MHz  128+ MB RAM  2 GB free hard disk  Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0  Power Macintosh or compatible  128+ MB RAM  2 Gb free Hard Disk  MacOS 8 or later WindowsMacintosh

Connectivity Options zWindows Platform yStandard IEEE 1284 parallel cable zMacintosh Platform yMAC/PCI Card xw/ standard IEEE 1284 cable

RIP  RIP - Raster Image Processor yProcess of converting pixels into lines of dots at various sizes, and densities for each separate CMYK color for printing. zWhat does a RIP really do? yConverts design into separate CMYK colors yUses halftone screening or diffusion patterns to fool the eye into seeing continuous tones yDirectly drives large format printers

Color gamut zThe gamut of colors each space can reproduce. zVisible gamut is the eye. zVisible > Pantone > RGB > > Hifi > CMYK zThe gamut of colors each space can reproduce. zVisible gamut is the eye. zVisible > Pantone > RGB > > Hifi > CMYK

Rendering Intents zDefines how output / print colors that are outside the color gamut of the printer. yPerceptual yRelative Colorimetric ySaturation ySpot Color

Rendering Intents This intent is best for photographic images. The relationship between colors in original is scaled proportionally to fit the output device’s color gamut.

Rendering Intents Is best for images, such as logos, where the original needs to exactly match the output. Colors that falls outside of printer’s gamut are converted at the edge of the gamut, which may reduce the total numbers of colors available. For this reason, this intent should only be used when there are relatively few colors in an image

Rendering Intents This intent is best for images where true color matching is NOT as important as vivid colors. This intent may be used to boost colors within a photographic image.

Rendering Intents This intent produces the greatest saturation possible, should only be used for NON-photographic images. Examples may include charts and graphs. Spot Color
