THE DEFENCES OF THE EMPIRE WERE STRONG ON THE EDGES, BUT WEAK IN THE MIDDLE SOLDIERS WANTED MORE PAY POOR PEOPLE WERE DRIVEN TO CRIME What caused the Empire to collapse? Can you match the causes to the consequences? IN 73 YEARS THERE WERE 23 EMPERORS. 20 OF THESE WERE MURDERED. THE BORDERS WERE COSTING MORE AND MORE TO DEFEND POWERFUL GENERALS KEPT FIGHTING AMONG THEMSELVES ABOUT WHO SHOULD BE THE NEXT EMPEROR ONCE TRIBES BROKE THROUGH THE DEFENCES IT WAS EASY TO KEEP GOING
