4 Why did men join the army? Serve for 25 years and then get a cash payment and some land. Clothing and equipment free! Travel the Empire! Be physically fit! Learn new skills like building roads, baths, bridges and forts. Protect the Empire and the people of Rome. Become rich through warfare. Be 1.6m tall and follow orders! Impress women! In the boxes above are nine reasons why men should join the army. Which are the main reasons why they should join? Complete a diamond nine in your book.

5 Your task Is to produce a recruitment leaflet to encourage people to join the Roman Army.
