All travelers are responsible for securing necessary documentation Carry a copy of your passport with you and also leave a copy at home. Non-U.S. citizens may require special visas or other travel documents. Passports and visas Valid passports are required for all travelers. Name and gender listed on your EF account must EXACTLY match your passport information. Airlines are very strict about this and can charge large name-change fees. Passports must be valid for 6 months after tour.

Entrance Fee There is a $10 Entrance Visa for the Dominican Republic. It is required for all foreign travelers entering the country. Per EF Tours, any passport and/or visa fees are always up to individual travelers to cover. We will collect the $10 fee in cash from each member of the group prior to departure.

Flight Itinerary Flight information ***Please meet at the JetBlue counter at 3:45 AM on 6/27.

EF will use the emergency contact list if they need to communicate any information while we’re on tour. Emergency contacts cannot be traveling with this group and must be available for the duration of the tour. Confirm your emergency contacts at least 30 days prior to departure. Make sure your information is correct and up to date. All changes can be made on your personalized EF website. Emergency contacts

ATMs are the best way to get money * more on this in a minute. Do NOT bring traveler’s checks. Notify your bank or credit card company that you’ll be abroad. Tell them each country you will be traveling through and the dates. Bring the equivalent of $50 in the currency of your arrival destination for use on the first day. Spending money

EF usually recommends arriving with about $50 in the local currency, to comfortably get through the first day or two. The Dominican Republic uses the Peso. It comes in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, 500,1000 and 2000 and there are coins in 1 and 5. Some tourist establishments or street vendors may accept US Dollars or other currencies, but the US Dollar is not legal tender in the country. Shops, Supermarkets and any other kind of retail establishment will not accept any other currency than the Peso. ATMs will be available at the airport. Some areas will be remote, without access to ATMs. ATMs in country will dispense money in Pesos. Travelers should alert their banks/credit cards that they will be traveling and using their cards abroad, so they don’t put a security hold on their cards. Spending money, cont’d

We’ll meet our Tour Director once we have cleared customs and claimed our baggage. We will start the tour right away and won’t check in to our hotel until the end of the day. Staying awake throughout the arrival day is the best way to beat any jet lag. Taking a nap might make you feel worse. Arrival

Our dedicated Tour Director will be with us the whole time to handle logistics and provide suggestions for activities. All Tour Directors are trained to handle challenging situations and emergencies that might arise. Tour Directors have 24- hour access to local EF offices, as well as our worldwide and North American headquarters. Tour Director

Hotel Marina del Mar Small, family-run hotel in Monte Cristi Offers an authentic Dominican Vibe AC, hot & cold water and Cable TV available in the rooms

Students are roomed 3-4 per room in a combination of twin and shared double beds. Students will be roomed with others of the same age and gender. Adults will share twin rooms with other adults of the same gender. Rooming

In order to avoid massive roaming data charges, it is best to put devices on “airplane mode” (wifi only) for the full duration of the tour. Wifi outside of the U.S. is not as prevalent and not as strong – do NOT expect the same amount of access that you are used to at home. Even if wifi is advertised and available in certain areas (hotels, cafés, etc.) it can be slower than we are used to and/or there may often be a charge for users to connect. When large groups arrive at a hotel all at once and all attempt access, it can easily overwhelm the standard bandwidth. Wifi and Internet Access

Meals Breakfast and lunch are included. Dinners will be a mix of local cuisine and familiar dishes and will be a pre-set meal for our entire group, rather than ordering from a menu. Typical Dominican food may consist of rice, beans, plantains, yucca, tamales, middle eastern spices, different meats, yaniqueques, empanadas, etc. Food portions are smaller than they are in the U.S. Table water is included; other beverages are an additional cost. Potable water is included in countries where it is deemed necessary. We suggest bringing a reusable water bottle. Inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions (including vegetarian, kosher, gluten-free, etc.)

Your resources Tour Handbook: You should have received this 30 days after enrollment. Safety Handbook: Look for it in the mail about 50 days prior to departure. Personalized website: Log in to watch destination videos, review your itinerary and find hotel and flight information as it becomes available.

Daily schedule Each day we will be at a local camp for children. We will have the opportunity to visit local sights and cultural events in the evenings. Our tour director will take us to see interesting places such as: Salt mine Mangrove (not by boat) Market Place near Dajabon El Morro (hike) 20

Mangrove 21

A world of support EF staff and offices are located world-wide in case of emergencies EF Emergency Service Team numbers From the U.S.: 800-637-8222 While abroad: 001-617-619-2913

Tips for PARENTS while kids are traveling “No news is good news” Your kids are out having fun and exploring a new place! Often times the last thing they are thinking about is checking in with their parents at home They will be making the most of their time with a full itinerary so do not expect to hear from your child every day. EF has schools and offices all over the world, and trained staff members on the ground o If there is any emergency on tour, you’ll hear from the Group Leader or a member of EF’s Emergency Service and Support Team. o If you have a family emergency at home, call EF’s Emergency Service and Support Team. Otherwise, no news is good news! Keep a color photocopy of your child’s passport at home This can come in handy if it gets lost or stolen abroad
