Home schooling can be very difficult when you first get started. It does require discipline and a change in your life style.

Yet you do not have the slightest idea of what it is all about. Well, it is all about helping your child learn the things that will make his life enjoyable. This part of the training program will cover areas that are vital to getting started.

These requirements differ from state to state and school district to school district. So, it would be a good suggestion to check with your local school district for their requirements. 6 8/8/2015 copyright 2003 6 Curriculum The curriculum is the heart of the home schooling program. It is the specified course of study for the maturity level of the student. Let’s say the student is a first grader. Some examples of resources are the Internet, local support groups, forums, your local book stores and library Contact a local support group in your area, see what they have to say about home schooling, and their support

8 8/8/2015 copyright 2003 8 Record Keeping A good record keeping system should reflect the subject taught, date unit or topic is taught, unit or topics related to the subject, attendance and evaluation. Record keeping can be in a journal format, or a more complicated setup as records of daily and weekly activities and may include goals. Click here for instructions on how to use forms.instructions

9 8/8/2015 copyright 2003 9 Scheduling Scheduling your classes will help you organize, manage and maintain your program. A specific time should be designated for each subject as well as household chores. Parent preparation should be included in the schedule Student learning styles can affect your schedule. Observe times when student is more alert and schedule the harder classes at that time. This will be discussed in Module II

10 8/8/2015 copyright 2003 10 Learning Environment Home Schooling changes your life style. The effectiveness of your program is determined by how well these changes are made and utilized.. The home, family, vacations, outings, trips to the grocery store, doctor’s office, to name a few, becomes the classroom and the environment for teaching and learning.

11 8/8/2015 copyright 2003 11 Technology in Home Schooling Technology in your program will enhance the student learning process and provide a structured pattern that will help you plan your learning activities. Technology will provide a variety of learning activities. Example: Discovery provides daily TV activities with lesson plans. The Internet provides e-text books, online activities, movies, and video clips.
