2. Language Spread Egyptian Spoken Arabic is understood throughout the Arabic speaking community as Coptic and the Egyptians have a heavy influence in the regions that speak Arabic. Rarely encountered in writing, it is mostly used for speaking while Literacy Arabic or Coptic is used in writing. Only became a language as of the 17 th century AD. About 54 million people speak it as a first or second language.

3. Brief History ESA actually finds it's roots in a language called Coptic. It was switched over in the 17th century AD. Coptic was used by the ancient Egyptians, a spin-off of Greek with six or seven additions to represent Egyptian sounds that weren't in the Greek alphabet. In the 7 th century AD, Muslim conquerors came into Egypt, since then Egyptians wrote in Arabic but continued to speak either Greek or Coptic.

The nomadic people still have their own language that they speak within their tribes.

Language and Territory Egyptian Spoken Arabic dominates the Middle East and Northern Africa as a business language, similar to Mandarin Chinese in the U.S. It is imperative that people in business speak it and unlike English most speakers speak it well, even as a second language. As Arabic differs by area, ESA is the only consistent language spoken in the Middle East so it dominates as an important language to know.

8. Why is ESA so prevalent? Egyptian professors were massively influential in getting a widespread education to the Arabian Peninsula, meaning that they spread their language when they moved around to teach students. Students pick up on it and take it home, then others pick up on it and it spreads like a plague. Not to be in a negative context. Being such a new language this is the main reason it has spread, that and Cairo is a massive trade city, or used to be so the language has spread as a trade language since its formation
