1 FACULTY DEVELOPMENT GRANTS: AN OVERVIEW ADJUNCT APPRECIATION DINNER TUESDAY, APRIL 22, 2014 MERCY COLLEGE, BRONX CAMPUS

2 MISSION OF THE COMMITTEE ON FACULTY DEVELOPMENT “…the Committee will foster the development of teaching, scholarship, service and collegial activity through grants, semiannual faculty seminar poster sessions for grant recipients, and other professional activities throughout the year. "

3 OBJECTIVES OF FACULTY DEVELOPMENT GRANTS Foster the individual faculty member's:  Development of peer standing  Development of professional competence  Enhancement of teaching ability  Contribution to Mercy College  Contribution to the community at large

4 FUNDING SPECIFICS – ELIGIBILITY AND AWARD SIZE  Available to full- and part-time faculty  Typically, awarded once per year  Maximum of $1,500 for adjunct faculty  Maximum of $3,000 for full-time faculty Note - Faculty may apply for more than one grant, if initial grant does not exceed the above mentioned amounts.

5 PROJECTS ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING 1. Traditional research and SoTL 2. Projects designed to enhance teaching and learning 3. Projects designed to develop professional competence and standing in:  The faculty member's discipline  Pedagogy 4. Projects related to the faculty member's discipline and responsibilities at the College. Grounded in Research

6 FUNDS CAN BE USED FOR:  Fees related to faculty development activities  Books, supplies and photocopying  Travel costs  Stipends (max FT $1,500; max PT $750) Note - Stipends are considered taxable.  Stipends for research participants and other project personnel

7 FUNDS CANNOT BE USED FOR:  Course Development*  Equipment purchases*  Software*  Tuition and fees related to any advanced degree study  Costs related to publication  Travel for conference presentation  Travel for conference attendance*
