2 If all of these people were visiting St. Dom’s to talk to us about the dangers of doing drugs, would you just have them walk onto the stage one by one, or would you try and create some order to it? YOU WOULD WANT TO TRY AND CREATE SOME ORDER TO WHICH THEY SPOKE TO GET THE MAXIMUM EFFECT OF YOUR MESSAGE, WHICH COULD BE WHY DRUGS ARE BAD.

3 HAVE YOU EVER HEARD SOMEONE TALK, MAYBE ON AN INTERVIEW, AND THEY JUST COULDN’T MAKE ANY SENSE?

4 Why a Research Paper? 1.) Refine our writing skills before entering college. Research papers will be assigned in college and the professor will already expect the students to be proficient in this skill. 2.) The research paper will strengthen public speaking skills. Through the writing of a research paper the student will learn the value of constructing an argument and backing up that argument with relevant facts and data. When speaking in front of a large or small group, whether in a formal or informal setting, it is important to speak with confidence, articulating your points. 3.) Students will be exposed to topics they may not have been aware of –You may be introduced to people or events that could enhance a thematic or DBQ essay in the future. Moreover, you may be learn about a topic that may spark a greater interest in history.

5 Thesis Statement: Students are required to inform me of your thesis statement by Friday, November 9, 2012. THESE GUYS ARE CRITICIZED WHEN THEY TAKE A “WISHY-WASHY” STANCE ON AN ISSUE. PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW YOUR POSITIONS ON VARIOUS ISSUE. FOR A RESEARCH PAPER YOU NEED TO TAKE A STANCE AND DEFEND IT.

Where did this issue originate? – Origins. 2. Where? When? How? Why? 3. Was a government involved with this issue? 4. Any other world leaders support or oppose your topic? Why? 5. Has the issue been taken up in any election campaigns? 6. Any groups or organizations support/oppose your issue? 7. Any economic ramifications? 8. Any social impacts? 9. Will this impact religion?
