7  Chad-Libya conflict - fighting in Chad between 1978 and 1987, which involved the army of Libya, France and the armed forces of various parties Chad. Libya intervened in the internal affairs of Chad and up to 1978, but it was particularly active in the civil war in Chad, in which Libya has held four interventions in Chad in 1978, 1979, 1980-1981 and 1983-1987. In all cases, Muammar Gaddafi supported one side in the Civil War, while the opposite side of the supporting France. In 1981 it was even announced the merger of Libya and Chad, which never took place..

8  In 1978 Libya supplied weapons and provided artillery and air support to its allies in Chad, but at ground operations involved in the main Chadian armed groups. This tactic continued almost throughout the conflict, and changed only in 1986, when all Chadian factions in the north of the country united against Libyan troops. In this situation, Libya was opposed to the mobile army, armed with antitank and antiaircraft missiles that nullified the advantage of firing the Libyan army. In the last phase of the war, known as the War "Toyota," Libya's armed forces were defeated and driven out of Chad.

9  The initial motivation for Gaddafi to interfere in the internal affairs of Chad's intention was to return the Aouzou strip, narrow strip of territory between Chad and Libya, which Libya has territorial claims. According to the agreement in 1935 between France and Italy, the band departed Italy (agreement was not ratified by France), then in 1955 an agreement was concluded between Libya and France, conveyed a strip of France. After the collapse of the French colonial empire, the band went on to Aouzou Chad. Moreover, the idea Jamahiriya assumed the union of all Arab states, and the creation of a union state to the south of Libya, with a view to spread the influence of Libya on the whole of Central Africa and the weakening of the influence of France is well fit into this picture. After the war, the question of the nationality of the band Aouzou by agreement was submitted to the International Court of Justice. In accordance with the decision of the tribunal in 1994, the band Aouzou is part of Chad. Today the conflict is resolved.
