What are the two types of input?  Raw unprocessed text, numbers, images, audio, and video  Instructions  Programs  Commands  User responses  Data A program is a series of related instructions that tells a computer what tasks to perform and how to perform them Programs respond to commands that a user issues A user response is an instruction a user issues by replying to a question displayed by a program

4 What Are Input Devices An input device is any hardware component that allows users to enter data and instructions into a computer

21 Two factors affect the quality of digital camera photos: Resolution is the number of horizontal and vertical pictures in a display device A pixel is the smallest element in an electronic display Resolution Each pixel consists of one or more bits of data The more bits used to represent a pixel, the more colors and shades of gray that can be represented Number of bits stored in each pixel  Pixel (picture element) is single point in electronic image  Greater the number of pixels, the better the image quality

27 What is a scanner? Flatbed Pen or Handheld Sheet-fed Drum  Light-sensing device that reads printed text and graphics  Used for image processing, converting paper documents into electronic images

Next  Optical character recognition (OCR) reads characters & translates them into ASCII (bytes) characters  Optical mark recognition (OMR) reads hand-drawn pencil marks, such as small circles  Bar code scanner  A device that uses light source to read characters, marks, and codes and then converts them into digital data
