“Peace, Love and Soul” “Who is this man
“Peace, Love and Soul” “Who is this man?” “Who is this that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him? “Who do the people say I am?”

LUKE 9:28-36 “About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.”

“They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.”

“As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, ‘Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters – one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ - not realizing what he was saying.”

“While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. A voice came from the cloud, saying, ‘This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.’”

“When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone
“When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. The disciples kept this to themselves, and told no one at that time what they had seen.” Luke 9

“What the baptism is to the public ministry of Jesus, the Transfiguration is to the passion.” A.M. Ramsey The cross stands between the glory of the Transfiguration and the glory of the Resurrection.

“Who was it for?” It makes sense to see that this event was more for Jesus himself than it was for his disciples.

The Transfiguration is the final answer to a question that keeps on being posed in the early chapters of Matthew, Mark and Luke… “Who is this man?”

What does the Transfiguration tell us about Who He is
What does the Transfiguration tell us about Who He is? Jesus is the glory of God “Jesus is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His being”.

“For Jesus this is a foretaste of the glory that He will know as a reward for the completion of his work.” -Dr. Robert Rayburn The voice of the Father is reminding Jesus, the man, the son, that He is well pleased and that Jesus is the beloved Son

The glory that fueled the obedience of Jesus is the glory that should fuel our obedience as well Metamorphosis is the present work of the Spirit in believers

The Transfiguration also tells us something about what He did “The Transfiguration is teaching us that Jesus is not only the God on the other side of the chasm, He is somehow also the bridge over the chasm.” - Tim Keller

The foundation of Christianity isn’t WWJD; it’s WJHAD Moses only liberated the people from economic and social oppression, but Jesus, through His death and resurrection, is going to liberate us from sin and death itself

Imagine a community of believers who are living under the influence of a future glory and who are being metamorphasized – transformed by the same Holy Spirit who indwelt and empowered Jesus Christ
