Map of China

Pandas are found in the wild ONLY in southwest China

Mountainous Forests

Mountainous Forests Where Panda Live Description mountainous forests in China and Tibet 4,000 to 12,000 ft above sea level often covered in heavy clouds. Torrential rains or dense mist throughout the year Bamboo forests

Description of Panda

Panda Facts The Giant Panda lives in the forests of China. They lives high in the mountains (4,000 ft. – 12,000 ft.) among dense bamboo. They can reach 6 ft. and weigh up to 275 lbs. Pandas can live up to 20 – 35 years.

Panda Facts They are vegetarians They eat bamboo 21 – 22 hours per day to support their size They eat 30 – 80 lbs. of bamboo (branches, stems, and leaves) per day.

There are LESS THAN 2,500 pandas living in the wild. They are one of our most endangered species! Panda’s only predator is MAN. Are you concerned?

What is happening to the Giant Panda? Area in which Pandas live is getting smaller because of human activities –logging –expansion of farming into forest areas –mining –road-building Another problem is the diet of the Giant Panda! Pandas have to travel to find new patches of bamboo

What Can We Do? Chinese Government has set aside land where bamboo is abundant –Corridors of bamboo so the Panda can travel to find food Giant Pandas must be protected against human encroachment Create new reserves Support your wildlife organizations Raise awareness Organize community support
