4.  Flower: The Iris In 1973, TN lawmakers named the Iris as its state flower after a wave of gardening that began in 1930.  Animal: The Raccoon In the 1800s raccoons almost became extinct, but after laws were implemented, they have survived and multiplied throughout the state.
