1 Convex Mirrors A convex spherical mirror is a mirror whose reflecting surface is an outward-curved segment of a sphere. Also called a diverging mirror because reflected rays diverge from the mirror. Takes the objects in a large field of view and produce a small image. Incident rays diverge after reflection as though they were coming from some point behind the mirror. Image is always virtual, image distance is always negative, and focal length is negative.

2 Convex Mirrors The focal point (F) and the center of curvature (C) are located behind the mirror. Dotted lines are extended along the reflected rays behind the mirror (like with flat mirrors). A virtual, upright image forms where the three rays intersect. Magnification is always less than 1.
