 Non renewable  Natural gas is retrieved from vast reserves in underground pockets.

 Discovered in the 19 th century  Chinese were the first to discover and use it  William Hart was the first successful American to recover natural gas  Unwanted gas used to be burned of in oil fields but now they put it into wells to save it  BP was one of the first pioneers in using cleaner hydrocarbons in natural gas

 Largest gas field is in Qatar  It is used in fabrics, glass, plastics, and paint  We extract natural gas from the natural gas reserves and transport it by pipeline to where we need it

 We store excess natural gas in tanks and it gets pumped to our homes from the ground via pipeline to our homes  We extract natural gas from the natural gas fields and send it to a factory where it is refined, then sent to us

 In 2008 our energy source was mainly used for heating and electricity  We are trying to make cleaner natural gas then we did before  Since 1965 we have been using much more natural gas, third only to coal and oil

 Advantages:  Relatively low emissions of pollutants compared to other fossil fuels  Safely stored and burned  Affordable  Many gas mines are still not used as much  Cheaper  Disadvantages:  Puts pollutants into the air  Tends to be more expensive than other fossil fuels  Less concentrated form of energy than coal and oil  Non renewable  Highly Flammable!

 People are very optimistic in America about natural gas in the future  The major problem about natural gas in the future is that it is non-renewable so we will run out eventually  BP has been one of the first companies to use cleaner hydrocarbons in their natural gas  In 30 years we will probably be using less natural gas and more clean renewable products
