6 Benefits for prospective teachers
“School Direct offers the experience of a school from the start, making teaching a far less daunting prospect.” “You are able to embed yourself into the school more than you would on a traditional placement, and therefore build stronger relationships with pupils and teachers that will help to improve your teaching.” “This sense of belonging is something which underpins the School Direct experience. As a School Direct trainee I have access to the full spectrum of school life. At a basic level, this means that I attend meetings, assist with a form, perform duties, and teach classes. On a training level, however, this means that I have access to a whole range of opportunities for professional development which I can use to enhance my training experience and my future employability.”

13 What makes the Sussex ITE Partnership Distinctive?
A Historic Partnership - over 40 years University & Schools working as a Consortium – everyone is supportive and experienced. A ‘personal touch’. A very wide range of subjects and routes at postgraduate entry level On-going professional development opportunities and contact after training – many trainees go on to work with us as NQTs, complete their MEd and return as mentors supporting others. High success rates in graduation, quality and employment -

14 Quality Outcomes from Sussex Partnership 2013-2014 Cohort
90 per cent secured QTS at first attempt, 97 per cent completed their course with either Merit or Distinction, 96 per cent secured their first staff teaching post on completion 99 per cent of ex-trainees rated the quality of their training as 'good' or 'very good'. In March 2014 OfSTED highly rated the Sussex Secondary provision as ‘Good’ and Primary as ‘Outstanding’.

15 OFSTED says… ‘All those involved in the partnership show strong engagement with a shared vision of providing high-quality professional development and training opportunities to schools and to the wider local learning community.’ ‘The rigorous and very successful selection and recruitment procedures result in high completion and employment rates for all groups of trainees.’ ‘The excellent university-based training is responsive to trainees’ emerging individual needs and ensures an appropriate balance between academic knowledge and practical teaching experiences.’

16 Our trainees say These last few weeks have been an amazing journey, I feel I have learnt an incredible amount, been inspired by your wonderful team of tutors, met some dedicated people and made some firm friends. I cannot thank you all enough for setting this year up for us all so well, and sending us out equipped with so much passion, knowledge and ideas. I am so excited about the future and can't wait to start weaving some magic amongst our children. Sir John Jones words will stay with me forever I am sure, and are going to be my mantra! For me, the highlight of the course was the balance between practical experience and teaching theory. The long first placement was a fantastic opportunity to see real progression in pupil achievement and to develop our unique style of teaching.

17 Our schools say “The calibre of the Sussex trainees is really noticeable, they are professional and innovative.”
