2  A bleeding disorder is a general term for a wide range of medical problems that lead to poor blood clotting and continuous bleeding  Bleeding Disorders also known as coagulopathy, abnormal bleeding and clotting disorders.

3  A bleeding disorder can result from defects in the blood vessels or from abnormalities in the blood itself. The abnormalities may be in blood clotting factors or in platelets.

8  Age of Onset : Neonate, Toddler, Adolescent  Family History : Family Tree and Gender  Bleeding History : previous surgical/dental procedure, presence of systemic disorder, drug history, usual patter or inconsistent history  Pattern of bleeding : Mucous membrane bleeding and skin hemorrhage, bleeding into muscles or into joints & scarring & delayed hemorrhage.

9  Treatments used are often, erythropoietin -(a red cell growth factor, commercially available as Procrit, Epogen and Aranesp) may help restore red cell production ).  ADD- treatments vary depending on the disorder.  For vitamin or mineral deficiencies, the appropriate factor must be replaced and the reason for the deficiency identified.  Iron deficiency is often due to bleeding; if so, the source of the bleeding must be found and remedied. ​

10 Your body needs iron to make hemoglobin. Your body can more easily absorb iron from meats than from vegetables or other foods. A doctor may suggest eating more meat— especially red meat (such as beef or liver), as well as chicken, turkey, pork, fish, and shellfish.  Nonmeat foods that are good sources of iron include:  Spinach and other dark green leafy vegetables  Peas; lentils, baked beans  Dried fruits, such as prunes, raisins, and apricots

12  Scarring of the joints or joint disease  Vision loss from bleeding into the eye  Chronic anemia from blood loss. Anemia is a low red blood cell count  Neurologic or psychiatric problems  Death, which may occur with large amounts of blood loss or bleeding in critical areas, such as the brain

13  von Willebrand disease (VWD)- VWD is the most common inherited, or congenital, bleeding disorder in humans, affecting men and women equally.
