Why I Choose This Topic I chose this topic, although I admit I knew it would be a challenge, because I want to help people feel their best. I want to detect what they're feeling so i can help cheer up the person, or if they're already happy, keep them in a good mood. I also admit that its pretty cool knowing how someone's feeling or thinking without asking them. ^__^

History Body language has been around, for, well, forever. Not only do humans use it, but animals, as well (so don’t go thinking you’re special!). Reading body language has been around since 1926 and has, in the recent years, become more popular.

Some Examples of Body Language… (Please go to next slide Ms. Lona )

Crossing Arms May mean the following:  Trying to hide something  Uncomfortable with their appearance  Closing themselves to social influence  Disagreement  Upset

Handshake May mean the following:  Confidence  Challenge

Wink May mean the following:  Private understanding  Secret-keeping  Excluding someone

Tilted Head May mean the following:  Sympathy  Being Playful  Flirting! (for all you clueless guys out there)

Raised Eyebrow(s) May mean the following:  Alert  Curious  Interested in conversation  Called to attention

What I learned… After studying about reading body language, I learned a number of things; one of them being that observing body language is tedious work. In the end, though, I feel it pays off when you get to help the person. I also learned that one of the main parts of the body you should focus on are the eyes; this is essential in the mastery of reading body language.

REMEMBER:  Never judge a person only by their body language  Don’t isolate yourself by, when in a social setting, staring at people trying to guess what they’re feeling or thinking.  If you are studying body language for social gain, don’t spend all your time “reading” the person, go and talk to them.
