1 Today’s Writing Task: Three Wishes
Step 1: Write a story where you are given the Monkey Paw and it is your turn to make three wishes. Step 2: What are the results of your three wishes? Does life get better or worse? Step 3: Write your story in paragraphs with each wish described in at least one paragraph. Minimum requirements: Full page Each wish is at least one paragraph Success Criteria: In paragraphs In past tense In first person Each wish is at least one paragraph

2 Today’s Writing Task: Write a complaint letter
Mcdonald’s just gave you a six pack of nuggets instead of ten or you ordered and paid for an extra large coffee at Tim Hortons but only got a medium -with no sugar. Option 1: Write a song about your experience OR Option 2: Write a complaint letter. This should be a formal letter with your address at the top and the address of the head office of whichever company you chose to write to. You will find their real address online, using a device of your own or help from the teacher. Then follow the instructions on the next slide….

3 The Complaint Letter Your Name Your street address (these details can be made up) Your Town, Your Province Your Postal code Your phone number Your address Today’s Date To Whom This May Concern, Paragraph 1: State who you are, the date of the mistake, THE MISTAKE, and the circumstances surrounding the mistake. Paragraph 2: How did the mistake make you feel? What were the consequences of the mistake? (here is where you threaten to never return) Paragraph 3: Suggest what you think needs to be done to correct the mistake. Sincerely, Your name here

4 Today’s Poem: Write a poem about Spring
Write a free verse poem about spring. What to write about? What animals do you associate with it? Describe them What plants do you associate with it? Describe them What memories do you associate with it? Describe them Is there one moment from you past or one moment during Spring that stands out. Describe that. You do no need to rhyme but may choose to do so. Success Criteria You described spring or spring-related things Your poem had at least two stanzas You wrote in first person

5 Today’s Writing Task: Write a poem based on a Hans Christensen fairy tale
Pick one of the following fairytales and write a poem based on it: The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid or The Emperor's New Clothes. (or another of your own choice) Option 1 Write an updated version, as Roald Dahl has done. Consider rhyming but you do not have to. It should be in third person point of view Option 2 Write from the point of view of one of the characters in a fairytale. This does not have to rhyme either. It will be in first person. Minimum length: 20 lines
