2 The 3 Primary Names of God

3 Jehovah Why is faith so important in getting to know God? Why is knowing God’s Word necessary to knowing Him? How important is desire in knowing God? How may living out our Christian lives help us to know God better? How does loving God result in getting to know Him better?

4 Jehovah We shall learn about 6 important attributes of the LORD God, Jehovah. Read Genesis 2:4 Read Exodus 6:3

5 Jehovah Read Rev 4:8. Holy means to cut off and implies separation Read Ps 111:9. Holiness is the perfection of God The LORD is love. Read John 4:8. It is the expression of His whole image Love is expressed in giving. Read John 3:16

6 Jehovah Jehovah is good. Read Exodus 34:6-7. Read Mark 10:18. No one is else can claim this attribute. He is omniscience. Read Rom 4:17 He is omnipresent. Read Ps 139:7-11 He is transcendent. Read Rev 3:20. He is omnipotent. Read Ps 139:12-16.

7 Jehovah Since He is the LORD, our response should be to: Yield. Read Rom 6:13. Talk. Read Luke 11:1-4 Serve. Read Ps 100:2.

8 Pater (Abba) or Father Describe how you relate to Father God What are privileges believers enjoy as children of our heavenly fathers? The personification of all that God is in the O.T. is found in the N.T. title for God as Father. Jesus introduced us to this new relationship with God (Matt 6:9)

9 Pater Read John 14:26. The Father is the first Person of the Trinity. Used 156 in John. While the Father is not emphasized in the O.T., He is seen as a metaphor or simile (Jeremiah 31:9). Read John 1:12. The Father is reflected in the warmth of earthly families.

10 Pater The Fatherhood of God, called Universalism, claims everyone is God’s child. But denies that: All are sinners (Rom 3:23) Eternal punishment for sin (Rom 6:23) The necessity of Christ’s death (1Pet 3:18) Regeneration and conversion (John 3:3)

11 Pater-How used in the N.T. O Father, Lord of Heaven (Luke 10:21) My Father (John 5:17) God the Father (John 6:27) Holy Father (John 17:11) Righteous Father (John 17:25) Abba, Father (Rom 8:15) Father of mercies (2 Cor 1:3) One God and Father (Eph 4:6) Father of Spirits (Heb 12:9) Father of lights (James 1:17)

12 Pater He is the Father of Creation. He is the national Father of Israel. (Jer 31:9) The unique Father of Christ (Matt 3:17) The redemptive Father (Rom 8:15)

13 Pater We are “sons of God.” Read 1 John 3:10. What this means to us is: Fellowship with Him (1 John 1:3) Access to Him (Rom 8:15) Guidance by Him (Rom 2:15) Security from Him (Rom 8:28) An inheritance (John 14:2)

14 Pater-As our Father He: Gives life to His children. Read 2 Cor 5:17. Loves His Children. Read Luke 11:13. Protects His Children. Read John 10:28-29. Provides for His Children. Read Matt 6:30.

15 Application Since He is our Father, have you been: Obedient? Respectful? Humble? Seeking his direction?
