2 Education system of Uzbekistan The education system of Uzbekistan is based on "The Law of education" and "National program preparing of specialists “ adopted 1997. Main idea of program is to provide continuous education for youth.

3 Education system of Uzbekistan: levels of education Basic education- total 12 year, compulsory and free Primary:4 years Secondary:5 years Same school Secondary specialized education- professional colleges OR (selective) 3 years Academic lyceums (high schools)

4 Education system of Uzbekistan: levels of education Higher education – Bachelors:4 years – Masters:2 years Post higher education till 1 st of January 2013 – Aspirantura= PhD studies: 3 years Degree obtained-”Candidate of …… sciences”=PhD – Doctoral studies:at least 4 years Degree obtained-”Doctor of ………. Sciences” now – Doctoral studies: 3 years Degree obtained-”Doctor of ………. Sciences”

5 Education system of Uzbekistan: types HEI University: general studies-science, humanities, philology, pedagogy, … Academy Institute: studies specialized in single sector of economy-agriculture, construction, medicine, finance, mining industry, …..

6 The Bologna Process in Uzbekistan Level of implementation of a three-cycle structure compliant with the Bologna Process Other existing three cycle structure The Bologna cycle structure Uzbekistan has its own three cycle system: 1st cycle of Bachelor; 2nd cycle of Master and third cycle of postgraduate education- Doctor of Science (Fanlar doktori)

7 The Bologna Process in Uzbekistan Student workload/duration for the most common Bologna programmes Bachelor programm es -4 years Not compliant with Bologna Master programm es-2 years Not compliant with Bologna Uzbekistan has undertaken a reform of its degree structure, replacing the previous one with a two-level higher education system. At present Uzbekistan has completely switched to two-level higher education and a new structure has become the only structure for all HEIs (except medicine): 4 year Bachelor degree programmes and 2 year Master degree programmes

8 The Bologna Process in Uzbekistan European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) Legislation on ECTS RATING SYSTEM (minimum - 56 points, maximum - 100 points) On the basis of the assessment results a decision is made about the transfer of successful students to the next year of the educational programme. It is impossible to be transferred to the next year if the requirements of the curriculum are not met by the students.

9 The Bologna Process in Uzbekistan Diploma Supplement (DS) Implementation of the Diploma Supplement Other type of DS National DS (“Diplomga ilova”) is issued in Uzbek and English language and free of charge
