Goals Ready by end of January 2007 Minimum 3 workstations Provide a safe environment for students to learn proper use of hardware equipment Assign volunteers from the Honor Society, SWE and IEEE to mentor & to supervise the lab at all appropriate times Give a tutorial every quarter to certify students in basic competence in use of the hardware equipment

Laboratory Management Undergraduate Manager Responsibilities The undergraduates will manage the day-to-day operations Controlling laboratory access Organizing training sessions Maintaining the equipment and ensuring laboratory cleanliness Managing development board and tool kit rentals

Laboratory Management Faculty Advisor Responsibilities Provide guidance to the undergraduate managers and focus primarily on long term management issues. Communication with the Jack Baskin School of Engineering Maintaining corporate relationships Guiding and selecting undergraduate managers

A Workstation One power supply One function generator One oscilloscope with probes One workstation computer with design software One multimeter One soldering iron

Community Involvement Laboratory managers will organize student events which will be open to all students regardless of individual laboratory access These events will teach students basic skills Soldering Use of development tools The first Honor Society, IEEE, and SWE meetings of the year will have a presentation on the lab

Conclusion Provide students of engineering at UC Santa Cruz with the facilities and the tools they need to develop existing projects and start new projects outside of classes Hope to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship and self-motivated research in the creation of the SOE hardware lab Make this hardware facility available to students year round Can not be accomplished without sponsorship
