1 Types of Crime

2 List as many different crimes as you can think of. GROUPS
The pupils can be asked to write a list of all the crimes they can think of. They can then be given the definitions of types of crime and can divide each of the crimes they have named into the categories given.

3 TYPES OF CRIME: - theft - White Collar, Blue Collar - fraud
- damage to property - traffic crime - assault - murder - rape - public order - drug and alcohol related These are the categories given in the national 4/5 unit support notes. It may be good to get the pupils to research what sort of crimes fit in each type using the links available in the website. The following group task is also available on the website. Alternatively classroom discussion or the handout named ‘Types of crime intro’ can be used.

4 Group Task Working in groups of 3 or 4 you are going to investigate one type of crime. Once you have completed your investigation you will present your findings to the rest of the class. You will be responsible for the learning of everyone in your class so it is important your findings are accurate!

5 Your presentation should contain
Type of crime Statistics about the level of the type of crime in Scotland What impact your type of crime has on individuals, victims and community At least one case study of your type of crime

6 Your case study should include
The type of crime Where it happened Detailed information about the incident Details of the perpetrator Details of the victim (if applicable/known) Punishment given (if known)

7 Types of Crime Can carry out a recap – ie. Tell me one thing, round robin etc.
