1 Entry Task 1/6/2015  You will have 20 minutes to complete the following task:  You need to finish all of your terms.  Once you are finished, you will exchange your paper with a partner.  You need to go through another classmate’s terms and mark agree or disagree next to their term and example. Be sure to discuss with your partner.  You will be turning this in.

2 Entry Task 1/7/2015  Pop Quiz!  On a sticky note, I want you to explain the three ways to persuade. Write your name on the sticky note.  Logos  Ethos  Pathos

3 Persuasive Skits  Create a scene that dramatically demonstrates the effects of the appeal that your group is assigned.  Use as many rhetorical devices as you can.  The team with the best score is exempt from the Vocab Test on Monday!  You will present at the beginning of the period tomorrow.

4 Entry Task 1/8/2015  On a separate sheet of paper, you are to write at least half a page persuasive piece.  Here is the prompt: Water is not allowed in HHHS classrooms. Should students be allowed to drink water in class? Why or Why not?  I want you to use the logos appeal.

11 Persuasive Article  You need to read “Don’t Shoot the Jester: Charlie Hebdo and the Humorously Challenged” article.  I want you to highlight, circle, or underline and label the following rhetorical devices:  Allusion  Analogy  Exaggeration  Testimonial  Antithesis

12 Questions to Answer  1. What is the controlling idea of this article?  2. Why does the author refer to Kim Jong Un?  3. What does the picture reveal about Charlie Hebdo?  4. How does the author introduce the topic of satire?  5. What persuasive appeal does the author use the most? (Logos, Ethos, Pathos)  6. Why does the author refer to the Charlie Hebdo tragedy when talking about satire?

13 Entry Task 1/27/2015  Read the article “Should Schools Eliminate Sports Teams?” in the Upfront magazine on page 22.  Answer these questions:  1. How is the article organized?  2. What appeal (logos, ethos, pathos) is the author using?  3. Which argument was more persuasive? Why?

14 Persuasive S.A.R  On a separate sheet of paper, you need to write a persuasive piece. You can use any rhetorical device or appeal that you want.  Here is the prompt:  Should the government place a tax on junk food and fatty snacks?

15 Presentation Feedback  Take out a half sheet of paper  You need to put your id number on it  In a paragraph, tell me which presentation was more persuasive.  Explain why  Provide some constructive criticism. What could they improve on?
