1 Organized by: The Malaysia International Chemical Sciences Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and Centre of Student Innovation (CSI) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia “The World Water Council reports that 1.1 billion people live without clean drinking water, while 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases. While the world's population tripled in the 20 th century, the use of renewable water resources has grown six-fold. Within the next fifty years, the world population will increase by another 40 to 50%. This growth will result in an increasing demand for water and will have serious consequences on the environment.” (www.worldwatercouncil.org) The ACS GIC was originally held at UTM, Johor, Malaysia in 2014. It brought together undergraduate students from many universities in the country to present their ideas on how to solve various problems pertaining to water resources.
