2 The research aimed to utilize the anthocyanin components of the Malunggay. The researchers wanted to look for an alternative source of anthocyanin that is of good quality and is sufficient to absorb and thus eliminate fat from the body. Moringa oleifera lamk will yield a significant amount of anthocyanin that when utilized, will be an effective fat-eliminator in terms of the different parameters such as Fat-eliminators must be able to bind and eliminate fat in the body, The fat- eliminator must have no adverse effects on the body, The fat-eliminator must focus only on the fat cells and must not cause deterioration of other bodily tissues such as muscles.

3 1. Specifically, this study will attempt to answer the following questions: What will be the best method to isolate anthocyanin from Malunggay? 1.1 Using Solvent Extraction Systems 1.2 Column Chromatography Process 2. Will Malunggay yield a significant amount of good quality anthocyanin which can be utilized as a fat-eliminator? 3. How effective is the extracted anthocyanin from Malunggay as fat- eliminator? 3.1 Anthocyanin extracted must be able to dissolve and eliminate fat. 3.2Anthocyanin extracted must be able to dissolve and eliminate a significant amount of fat. 3.3 Anthocyanin extracted must be able to eliminate fat only.

4 The study aimed to investigate the action of the anthocyanin extracted from Moringa oleifera lamk. It also aimed to discover which method of extraction would yield a significant amount of anthocyanin since the extraction is a crucial part of the whole experimentation. It was performed within Metro Manila in the year 2009. This research started on the second week of June 2009 and ended on October 20, 2009. The proposed study was all about the isolation of Anthocyanin from Malunggay and its utilization as a fat-eliminator. As contribution to the efforts to stand up from recession, the researchers used readily available, efficient but cost-effective materials The study aimed to utilize anthocyanin in the Malunggay plant. Also, this aimed to find the method of isolating anthocyanin which will have the greatest yield and best quality of the antioxidant. The researchers thought that the study would be vital to the field of science, especially in the medical field, for it can be a solution to the ever- increasing problem of obesity

The higher the value represented by the DPPH, the greater the concentration of anthocyanin in the extract. The methanol extract shows the highest value of DPPH while Dichloromethane shows the least.

Quantities of diameter and time it took for the hole to close were data from 5 trials because the crude extract of 50ml was separated into five 10ml applications and the quantities obtained were recorded and averaged. The amount of oil that remained was also measured to determine the fat-dissolving action of anthocyanin.

9 This research entitled “The Effectiveness of Anthocyanin extracted from Moringa Oleifera Lamk as a fat-eliminator” has been conceptualized out of pure curiosity: if malunggay contained a significant amount of anthocyanin and if it would be effective in the elimination of fat. The researchers also wanted to know which method of extraction would yield the most amount of anthocyanin. The researchers chose flash chromatography with hexanes used as its solvent and water-bath assisted solvent extraction methods using acetone, dichloromethane and methanol as their solvents as their methods of extraction. The researchers put in mind that the significant anthocyanin content would be able to bind and dissolve fat. The researchers used the four extraction methods and they have proven that Moringa oleifera lamk absolutely contained a significant amount of anthocyanin. Through the four extraction methods, they found out and at the same time concluded that methanol produced and showed the greatest capability in extracting phenolic antioxidants and inhibiting the free radicals produced by DPPH among four solvents used. The extracts were dropped in water with oil, after doing so; there was a dispersion of the oil molecules indicating that there is dissolving or elimination of fat because the oil represents fat. Also, the original amount of oil was reduced after the experiment, indicating that the anthocyanin in the crude extract was able to make the oil molecules soluble in water. Two experiments using different crude extracts were done and the data was recorded and analyzed. Because of this, the researchers were able to confirm that anthocyanin could be used as a fat-eliminator. 10 The researchers conclude that malunggay absolutely contains a significant amount of anthocyanin that is able to dissolve fat. Furthermore, the best method that produced the most yields was through water-bath assisted solvent extraction method using methanol as its solvent. The researchers also conclude that anthocyanin dissolves fat which was proved by the oil dispersion test where there was dispersion in the oil column and reduction of the original volume of the oil used prior to experimentation, signifying that anthocyanin made the oil molecules soluble in water. The researchers recommend further study to be conducted regarding this topic. Since the researchers only made use of two methods, further study may lead to discovery of ways on how to extract anthocyanin from malunggay and also be able to yield the maximum amount of anthocyanin. The researchers used malunggay because it is widely available in the country and it is economically and scientifically proven to be safe and nutritious. Knowing this, the researchers recommend using a different plant that may contain antioxidants that may also eliminate fat. In addition to this recommendation, the researchers also recommend to further study the properties of anthocyanin, its fat-dissolving action and its utilization, especially on making some kind of dietary supplement which is safe for humans, effective in terms of fat-dissolving and is affordable.
